Meet Cara
Care that starts with listening.
Dr. Cara MacMullin · Naturopathic Doctor
I believe that good healthcare begins with feeling heard. Your health is shaped by more than a collection of symptoms, and understanding the bigger picture takes time, curiosity, and a willingness to look a little deeper. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I bring an evidence-informed, integrative approach to naturopathic medicine. My goal is to help you better understand your health, uncover contributing factors, and develop a realistic, individualized plan that supports your wellbeing. Whether you're navigating hormonal changes, persistent digestive concerns, fatigue, or challenges with your child's health, I'm here to help you find clarity and a path forward.
A little about me Originally from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, I completed my Bachelor of Science at Dalhousie University before graduating from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2006. I spent my first decade in practice working in multidisciplinary clinics in downtown Toronto. Those early years helped shape the way I approach healthcare today: collaboratively, thoughtfully, and with an appreciation for how interconnected our bodies really are. Over the years, my clinical interests have grown through ongoing education, experience, and my own life as a mother of three. I've developed particular interests in women's hormonal health, fertility, perimenopause and menopause, digestive health and the gut microbiome, metabolic health, and children's health, including ADHD. I'm especially fascinated by the relationships between our gut, hormones, immune system, and brain, and how changes in one area can influence so many others. My additional training includes digestive disorders such as IBS and SIBO, chronic infections including Lyme disease and Epstein-Barr virus, and mold-related illness. What hasn't changed over the years is my belief that healthcare should be collaborative. I want my patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understanding their options, and taking an active role in their health.
My approach to your health
Individualized care. Meaningful conversations. Practical solutions.
There is no single approach that works for everyone. Two people can experience similar symptoms for very different reasons, and what works for one person may not be right for another. I take the time to understand your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and goals. Together, we'll explore the factors that may be contributing to how you're feeling and decide where to focus our efforts. I value evidence-informed care, thoughtful investigation, and working alongside other healthcare professionals when appropriate. Just as importantly, I believe that your treatment plan needs to make sense for your everyday life. Health isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about finding meaningful, sustainable changes that work for you.
Your story matters.
Our first visit is an opportunity to look beyond your immediate symptoms and understand the full picture. We'll discuss your health history, nutrition, sleep, stress, digestion, hormonal health, and whatever else may be relevant to your concerns. I want you to leave feeling heard, understood, and confident about our next steps.
Looking deeper, when it matters.
When appropriate, laboratory testing and other assessments can help us better understand what's happening beneath the surface. My approach is thoughtful and evidence-informed. Testing should have a clear purpose, help answer meaningful questions, and guide decisions about your care.
